Polkerris is a tiny hamlet west of Fowey down a winding lane past Kilmarth the last home of Daphne du Maurier It is also the next cove to Menabilly the long time home of the author where du Maurier lived for 24 years with the Raleigh family The Menabilly estate is the setting for Manderley in the novel Rebecca The cove itself inspired the novel Rebecca and is where the character meets her death
