These eighteen acres of Shiennes land eventually came intothe Dick family, as we shall see further on. By the sale of Sanctgeligrange the last link was riven in the chain wherebyfor nearly one hundred and thirty years the Cant family had held possession ofthe lands and manor-house of Grange. Mr. John Cant soon after became lairdof Colmestoun, and Sir William Dick knight of Braid; but before we narratethe subsequent events of his remarkable career, we will turn back and take aglance at the earlier records of his
