Light micrograph of an early stage in the development of the adrenal gland. Above the kidney, which is still in a very immature phase, is a rounded aggregate of cells, from which the adrenal cortex will be formed. Above this are small, dense cell cords (sympathoblasts) from which the adrenal medulla will form.
