Sleep research: an infrared video system is used to discreetly monitor a subject of the sleep research unit at the Henri Mondor hospital, Creteil, France. The mass of wiring about the woman's head connects electrodes taped to her face, head & neck to a polysomnograph, a hybrid instrument of an electrocardiograph (ECG), an electroencephalograph (EEG) and an electromyograph (EMG). Traces on paper print-out provide data on electrical activity of the heart (from the ECG), brain (from the EEG) and muscle activity in the face and neck. Areas of medical research include studies of the onset of epilepsy & sleep deprivation.
