The 48 star flag was flown in the United States from July 4, 1912 through July 3, 1959. Retired Navy Cmdr. Joseph Agra III acquired the flag in 2000 after a fisherman retrieved it from the water off the coast of the Bataan Peninsula in the Philippines.
