Mission San Luis Rey de Francia was founded 13 June 1798 (18th in order) by Padre Fermin Francisco de Lasuén. The mission is named for Louis IX, King of France (1215-1270). The mission is in the shape of a cross and the interior has double-dome wooden construction.
