He left a large fam-ily, having 35 sons and daughters. JOHNSON, John Edward, first coun-selor in the presidency of the SanFrancisco Stakeof Zion, was bornOct. 2, 1890, inMurray, Salt LakeCo., Utah, the sonof John Johnsonand Edla Wilhel-mina Lundell. Hisparents beingstaunch Latter-day Saints, theboy, John Edwaxd,was trained in theprinciples of theGospel from hisearly youth andwas baptized November 6, 1898, by. 150 LATTER-DAY SAINT Robert L. Campbell, and subsequent-ly ordained successively to the offi-ces of Deacon, Teacher, Priest andElder. When a few months old, hemoved with his parents from Murrayto Benjamin, Utah Co., Utah, wherehe received a common school educa-tion, graduating from the eighth gradein the spring of 1906. At the age ofseventeen, he entered the High SchoolDepartment of the Brigham YoungUniversity at Provo, graduating fromthat school in 1911. He then enteredupon college work in the BrighamYoung University, graduating withthe degree of A. B. in the spring of1915. During his last year of studythere he functioned as president ofthe student body. In 1912-1913 hetaught school in Hinckley, Utah, andlater acted as principal of the Snow-flake Stake Academy at Snowflake,Arizona. After moving to Berkeley,California, in
