MENINGES OF THE BRAIN The brain is surrounded by three membranes, viz. dura-mater, arach-noid and pia-mater. (Fig. 41). The outer layer adheres to the cranium, especially along the suturesand at the base. The inner layer gives off prolongations, three in number, viz. falxcerebri, falx cerebelli, tentorium cerebelli.
