A column was erected in honor of Gaelius Duilius in the Roman Forum and the beaks from Punic victories were attached to it.

Gaelius Duilius was a Roman statesman and also an admiral who fought in the First Punic War (264-241 ) against Carthage. To honor his naval victories, he was awarded a military triumph that included the ramming beaks of the Carthaginian warships he had defeated. A column was erected in his honor in the Roman Forum and the beaks were attached to it - pictured here in this 1901 photograph.
