In December, 1872, a similar fire sweptover Boston, Massachusetts. Aboutsixty-five acres were burned, and solidbuildings of stone and brick went downbefore the flames like houses of Cleveland. About $30,000,000 worth of pro[)erty was destroyed ; but soon new and more elegant buildings replaced those that were burned, and the city prospered more than before. The Indians now and then made trouble, and, in 1876, attacked a body of cavalry led by General Custer, and massacred every one of them.
