Lantau Island is the largest island in Hong Kong and is located at the mouth of the Pearl River. Once a sucessful fishing village this industry is now dying out. It is a notorious base for smuggling illegal goods in and out of mainland China. A fire in 2000 destroyed many residences and the village is now mostly made up of squatters huts and dilapidated stilt houses.
