The care of these motors, and car equipmentsrequires about two hours attention per day fromone man, whose duty is simply to look over eachequipment and clean commutators, gears, andother wearing parts, from oil and dirt. The dynamos are of the standard Edison typefor railway power circuits, and it is interesting tonote that they have been in operation for overseven weeks without renewal of oil in lower ones a few inches and dispensing with theusual side braces, ample openings are left oneither side for removing the armature, adjustingthe brushes, and for inspecting the motor fromthe outside. With the present trucks these oper-ation are usually performed through a trap-doorin the floor of the car. To remove the car bodyfrom the truck it is only necessary to take offeight nuts and then raise the body 11^ inches. The truck has a double spring action. The view is taken at the corner of Lo-cust and Mason streets, and gives a very goodidea of the style of overhead wiring used alongthe line. All the poles are of iron, and of neatand tasteful design, and the construction and linework throughout, while showing evidence ofdurability and strength, is, at least, unobtrusive,and, by no means, unsightly.
