Shah Alam, Malaysia, satellite image. Shah Alam, which has a population of 120,000, is 20 kilometres west of Kuala Lumpur. The city is arranged with most of its residential areas on one side of the federal highway and industrial areas on the other side. The city has been the centre of the palm oil trade for centuries. The main plant of the Malaysian car manufacturer Proton is also located in Shah Alam. Taken by the Ikonos satellite on 1 June 2001.
