In 1882 Cuypers wrote a competition for designing stained glass windows for the front hall of the Rijksmuseum. He invited six artists to participate and send a test window with Apelles. Five of them gave it to this: Dixon, Geuer, F. Nicolas and the Tyrolean glass malerei und Cathedralenglashuette. Dixon finally got the assignment. His window was placed. The four other windows are kept in the Rijksmuseum.
