Insciption on the Tennyson Monument, Tennyson Down, Totland, Isle of Wight, England.


The Tennyson Monument, on the highest point of Tennyson Down, was erected in 1897 in the memory of Alfred, Lord Tennyson, the poet. Tennyson lived nearby in Farringford House part of the Farringford Estate which included the hill upon which Tennyson would take a daily walk and where the monument now stands. There is an inscription on the monument which reads "IN MEMORY OF ALFRED LORD TENNYSON THIS CROSS IS RAISED A BEACON TO SAILORS BY THE PEOPLE OF FRESHWATER & OTHER FRIENDS IN ENGLAND AND AMERICA" - Tennyson Monument, Tennyson Down, Isle of Wight, England, UK : May 2007.
