The corps was discontinued August 1,1865. jMajor-General Peter Joseph Osterhauswas born in Coblenz, Germany, in 1823, and servedas an officer in the Prussian army- He came toSt. Louis, and in 1861 entered the Union army asmajor of volunteers. Later, as colonel, he had abrigade in the Army of the Southwest, and at PeaRidge he commanded a division. Passing into theArmy of the Tennessee as brigadier-general ofvolunteers, he commanded divisions in the Thir-teenth and Fifteenth corps, taking part in the [220].
