Foetus. Ultrasound scan of a healthy human foetus at 37 weeks, near to birth. A full term foetus will have a crown-rump length of around 35 centimetres, and will weigh around 3000 grams. Ultrasound is a diagnostic technique which sends high-frequency sound waves into the body via a transducer. The returning echoes are recorded and used to build an image of an internal structure.
