Looking west from Moonlight Crag across the Albert River valley. LAMINGTON PARK MAP 174113715?searchTerm=albert river lamington national park&searchLimits=l-state=Queensland|||l-word=100+-+1000+Words ) A most interesting recent addition to the Brisbane Museum collections is a fine topographical map of the famed Lamington National Park, than which in the opinion of Mr. H. A. Longman, there is no finer scenery in Queensland, if indeed anywhere else. The map is artistically colored, and is made to a horizontal scale of 1in. to 40 chains and a perpendicular scale of 1/8in. to 200ft. It depicts most graphically in colour the remarkable network of ridges, ravines, rivers and rivulets, towering cliffs and dense jungle slopes and tableland of that natural wonderland. The highest peak has an elevation of over 3000ft. Down the ravines between the many spurs run rivulets of clear water which here and there are precipitated in cataracts of from 20 to 400ft. The map shows the rugged cliff against which the Stinson aeroplane crashed with such tragic consequences in February, 1937, and a cross marks the grave of Mr. Alan Westray, one of the victims of that disaster. The rivers which intersect this region are the Albert, Coomera, Upper Nerang, and the creeks include the Cainbable, Canungra, Running, Christmas, Widgee, Stockyard and Duck. A wall map which hangs on the wall nearby provides a very useful key to the horizontal topographical one. From the Daily Mercury, Wednesday 13 July 1938.
