I love Japan but whaling breaks my heart" was the slogan as people gathered just days before the International Whaling Commission (IWC) was due to take a vote on a motion sponsored by Japan that would end a moratorium on commercial whaling that had so far lasted over 20 years. In the end the moratorium was upheld. The protest was organised by Greenpeace and IFAW, the International Fund for Animal Welfare
