JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – Michael U’Ren, the official athlete torchbearer, holds the Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” high with Detective Shirrell Veitenheimer from the Kennewick Police Department during the opening ceremony of the 2013 Summer Games at Joint Base Lewis-McChord May 31. Athletes from all over the state of Washington traveled to compete at JBLM, which has been primary competition site for the Washington Special Olympics for four decades.
