Carlisle Cathedral from the south east, Carlisle, Cumbria, England, UK.
The church of the Augustinian priory on the site became a cathedral in 1133. The original Norman building was repaired and rebuilt in 1225 in Early English style of architecture and, after a fire in 1292, in the Decorated architectural style. The central tower was added by Bishop Strickland in 1400 to 1419. Much of the original nave was destroyed during the Civil War resulting in a rather lopsided appearance and one of the smallest cathedrals in England.
