He desired to continue his stud-ies, but his father induced him to assist him in his work. In 67his brother-in-law, Valentine Schaaf, of Indianapolis, Ind., visitedthe fatherland, which William always considered to have beenprovidential, and he concluded to leave his home and go withMr. Schaaf to America. On March 10, 67, they safely arrived atIndianapolis, Ind. He soon gave evidenceof possessing gifts for publicwork, and that the divine callto preach was upon him. Thoughvery limited in means, he de-cided to enter North-WesternCollege, in order to better pre-pare for the work of the holyministry. Upon hearing this,his relatives and friends in In-dianapolis cheerfully assistedhim with means. He completedthe German Course with credit,besides pursuing other select studies.
