Rhododendron ponticum, Rhododendron x superponticum, an invasive wild Rhododendron plant at peak flowering has become invasive the British countryside


Popular for its rapid growth and abundant purple flowers, it was introduced by Conrad Loddiges as seed in 1763 to be used as a cultivated flowering plant in Victorian times being very widely planted in gardens, estates and country species is listed on Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act in England and Wales, it is an offence to plant or otherwise cause to grow these species in the wild.
