Campanile of the Chiesa di San Sebastiano in Cavalese, South Tyrol, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy. Cavalese is a town at the heart of the Val di Fiemme, one of the main valleys of the Dolomites.

Cavalese, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy: campanile of a church which dates back to 1400, the Chiesa di San Sebastiano in Piazza Cesare Battisti. Cavalese (Cavalés in fiemmese dialect) is in the heart of the Val di Fiemme, one of the main valleys of the Dolomites, stretching along the Aviso river. The town was first settled in the Mesolithic era and its development was linked to the Rio Gambis and flood-prevention measures. Once embankments had been built, houses and shops were built in the area. The town has many buildings of medieval origin, including the Palazzo della Magnifica Comunità which is surrounded by a crenellated wall and has a façade decorated with frescoes. In the 18th century, Cavalese established itself as a cultural centre. The Palazzo Rizzoli built at this time is a typical Fiemmese mansion rich in frescoes.
