Allen of Burlingtonpays the following tribute to : He was industrious,careful, accurate in his business, of strict integrity, a patriotic citizen, awarm hearted friend, and a devoted son and was generally respected. He was married in Burlington, Vt., September 23, 1863, to Julia A. Sweeta native of Johnson, Vt.; no Sergeant Pomeroy Loomis. JUDGE JOHN MITCHELL. John Mitchell was born in Claremont, N. IL, February 28, 1836, and diedin Des Moines, Iowa, December 29, 1890. He prepared for college in theschools of his town and entered the University in 1853, remaining two years;was a student at Dartmouth College two years. He studied law and wasadmitted to the bar in New Hampshire. About 1860, he located in Des MoinesIowa, where he made his home until his death. He soon attained high rank atthe Iowa bar and held several positions; served as judge; of the Circuit Courtfor twelve years. He married Rebecca, daughter of C. P. Anschuty of Moundville, W.
