Fine table beets of 2% inches in diameter will have foliage scarcely five inches high, the leaves proper be- ing only three inches long, of a deep rich red color. They can be grown closely together, four inches apart in the row being sufficient. The roots are smooth and regular in form: the skin dark blood-red. The flesh is fine grained and free from woodiness, even when fully matured. Of a rich color, the beets cook dark blood-red. and remain in fine condition along time. Taking all in all, this is one of the very best varieties for home and mar- ket gardeners' use. 10c % oz., 15c oz., 40c % lb. The roots are of a neat turnip shape, with smooth skiu and deep blood-red flesh, of rich, tender quality. It is ready to use very EARLY, growing as quickly as does the Egyptian, while it does not become coarse and stringy, as does that variety when of large size. Compared with such famous sorts as Edmand's and Eclipse, the Columbia has proved earlier than either, and even better in quality than these two really first-class varieties. In habit of growth it is remarkably thorough- bred, the foliage being small, neat, and of a rich bronze color.
