The Callington Mill was built in 1837 in Oatlands, Tasmania, Australia. The 15-metre high mill was built by English-born John Vincent based on its design on a Lincolnshire tower mill with a self-turning cap and fantail which keeps the sails pointing into the wind at all times. By 1891, the mill ceased flour production after 50 years, The mill has recently been restored so that it is now in full working order producing flour. It is the only operating mill of its type in the Southern Hemisphere and the third oldest windmill in Australia. Oaklands still retains its old charm of a pioneering town. It is also home to 150 Georgian buildings – the largest collection of any town in Australia.
