'Smollet', (1721-1771), 1830. Tobias George Smollett (1721-1771) Scottish poet and author, educated at University of Glasgow where he qualified as a surgeon. After spending time in Jamaica he published an English translation of Miguel de Cervantes's novel Don Quixote and became editor of The Critical Review.
