Standing Buddha. Indonesia, East Java, 8th century bronze, gold. Although this figure was found on Java, it was probably made elsewhere and exported to Indonesia. The drapery folds of the monk's robe are characteristic of Buddha figures from India and Sir Lanka. The (ushnisna) or protuberance on the head, a standard feature in representations of the Buddha, is a later addition in gold.
