Medals, Penny of Death, dog tag and New Testament with Bullet hole. Private Johnny Williams was from Blaenau Ffestiniog in north Wales and worked in the slate quarries. He enlisted in 1915 with the Royal Irish Fusiliers as the Welsh Fusiliers were not recruiting at that time. On January 15th 1916 he was part of a platoon laying down barbed-wire defences when he was shot by an enemy sniper. The bullet went through his new Testament, kept in his breast pocket, and straight through his heart killing him. He is buried in Sucrerie Military Cemetery near Albert in France.
