View NNE of Carn Liath (Balgown) Neolithic chambered tomb, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK, showing remains of the Hebridean square cairn with a modern drystone wall incorporating a capstone. The broken capstone sitting on two upright slabs formed part of the burial chamber or entrance passage which came in from the S (R) where there may have been a forecourt & facade. The foreground upright is one of the peristalith stones retaining the W side of the cairn. The retaining slabs formed projections or horns at each corner. The cairn has been much robbed for crofts & modern field walls. The tomb sits on the crest of a long ridge running NW-SE which once separated (the now drained) Loch Chaluim Chille from the W coast of Trotternish.
