Lugh's Magic Spear

According to Irish mythology, the spear of Lugh is one of Ireland's seven treasures. It was said that the spear had been forged by the god Lugh, a hero and High King, to use against the enemy known as Balor of the Evil Eye. Legend also said that whoever held it would be victorious and that it was so hot to touch that when not in use it had to be kept with the blade in cold water. The spear was also magical in that once thrown it always came back to Lugh after it hit its mark. In this 1905 drawing by English H R Miller, Lugh (center right, no helmet) is shown charging into battle with his spear.
