Launched in 2004, NPM is the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s national annual preparedness outreach, and it aims to educate and empower Americans on how to prepare and respond to emergencies, including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks. The event had about 30 runners and 37 “zombies” participating. The first three finishers won a safety tube with preparedness information in it including flashers, an emergency blanket, a whistle, how to make a kit, how to plan and how to be informed. All other volunteers received a preparedness bag that included first-aid items. ( Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Stephen Campbell)
