Some ofthe best known cases were: Statevs. Hodges, tried in the Wake Su-perior Court in 1867; the Johnsonwill case, tried before Chief JusticeMerriman in 1867; the habeas corpuscase in 1870, and the Impeachmenttrial of Governor Holden. He was married, October 4, 1837,to Isabella Margaret Cuthbert, ofPetersburg, Va. Seven children wereborn to them: John; Blanche, mar-ried Andrew Syme; Herbert; Isabella,married Charles D. Harot, resides. Hon. Thomas Bragg. in Petersburg, Va.; Fi-ances Rice, died unmarried in 1890; Elsie Ellis, mar-ried William L. Morton, resides in Petersburg, Va.; Mary Love, marriedRobert Gilliam, resides in Petersburg, Va.; Mattie Cuthbert, married RobertPrichard, resides in Petersburg, Va. JACOB SHELDON BRANDEGEE. Jacob S. Brandegee, son of Elishama and Emily Stocking (Jabez) Brande-gee, was born in Berlin, Conn., September 9, 1812, and died in Alexandria,Ind., August 4, 1851. He attended the schools of his town and entered the Academy in 1824,graduating in 1829. He worked in his fathers store in Berlin until 1848,when he removed to Alexandria, Ind., where he resided until his death. He was married May , 1839, to Sarah M.
