Der Braunpelikan ist ein kleinerer Vertreter der Pelikan-Familie, der an den Küsten von Nord- und Südamerilka, sowie der Karibik brütet. Er gehört zu den beiden Pelikan-Arten, die ihre Beute im Sturzflug und tauchend erwischen.
