He sub-sequently, as major-general of volunteers, had adivision in the Nineteenth Corps, Army of theGulf, from January to July, 1863, and in Octoberwas put in command of the Twenty-second ArmyCorps (Department of Washington) where he re-mained until the close of the war. He returned tothe regular army in 1866, as colonel, and was madebrigadier-general in 1869. He commanded severaldepartments in the West and South and was retiredin July, 1885. He died in Washington, D. C,January 16, Samuel H. Hurst, Colonel of the 73d John \V. Sprague, Originally Colonel Charles F. Manderson, Originally Regiment. of the G;?il Regiment. Colonel of the 19th Infantry.
