The late Kurdistan Democratic Party peshmerga, Mohammad Shafiq, Zakho, after the Kurdish uprising against Saddam Hussein. Kurdish Autonomous Zone then patrolled by allied overflights to protect the Kurds now the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Inter tribal feuds saw many fatalities of which Shafiq was an early victim. Former leader and spokesman in the Diyarbakir refugee camp in Turkey for Iraqi Kurds after 1988 and 1989 gas attacks by Ba'ath Party, Anfal campaign.
