Illustration towards Saturn, seen from just above its moon Enceladus. Recently, astronomers have begun to suspect that Enceladus has a subsurface ocean of liquid water just tens of metres beneath its frigid surface of cracked ice. The most prominent cracks, on Enceladus' southern polar region, have been dubbed the 'tiger stripes', as seen in this image, winding into the distance. Enceladus is just 500 km across and orbits its parent at a distance of 238,020 km.
