Alien planet HD 189733b and stellar flare. Artwork of the exoplanet HD 189733b seen from its moon during a stellar flare. This Jupiter-sized planet is around 63 light years away in the constellation Vulpecula. This powerful eruption blasted material from the planet's atmosphere at a rate of at least 1000 tons per second. NASA's Hubble Space Telescope detected the escaping gases and NASA's Swift satellite observed the stellar flare. The results of the observations were announced on 28 June 2012.
