Laos was part of French IndoChina colonial union including Vietnam & Cambodia gaining independence from their French rulers in 1954 and finally peace from the American bombing campaign which spread into Laos from the second Indochina war raging in Vietnam in 1975. Old Pathet Lao soldiers from the communist side in Laos are considered heroes of their country
