An early 20th century view of the Cathedral Church of St Colman, aka Cobh Cathedral, towering above the terraced houses in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland. Construction began in 1868 and the photograph illustrates the building before the existing bell tower was erected. Designed by architects Edward Welby Pugin and George Ashlin it wasn't completed until over half a century later due to increases in costs and revisions of the original plans


This Photo Chrome image was shot around 1900. In the interests of transparency (no pun intended) the image has been cleaned, sharpened and enhanced. The original sky was bleached out and a new sky has been carefully added.
