Sheep on the Ribble Way public footpath on top of a sea defence bank alongside Longton Marsh which lies on the coast of North West England.
Cw 7286 Sheep on the bank on Longton Marsh Longton Marsh lies on the coast of North West England. A earth bank has been built along it to stop the land on the beyond it towards Longton from being flooded by the tide. Along part of the top of the bank runs a public footpath that is now part of the Ribble Way. Here two interested sheep keep their eye on an approaching walker. The marsh on the seaward side is regularly covered by the tide from the Irish Sea though not to a great extent unless it is a very high tide. Some of the gullies are filled with water a lot of the time irrespective of if it is tide time or not. This allows farmers to have sheep grazing the marsh during the summer months. This area of marsh land is at the confluence of the rivers Ribble and Douglas. Copyright Colin Wareing Cw 7286 E-mail Phone no 07931 356204
