Lynn, however, began this industry before Braintree and wasevidently more successful if we may judge from the words of one writer who saidthat in the latter town they pounded out less iron than they hammered out lawsuits. It may be interesting to mention that Captain John Smith on his map gaveQuincy the name of London; and the figures of a castle and cathedral were annexedas showing the prosperity and grandeur to which he believed the town would attain.
