A game of tennis, 1659. Real tennis is the original racquet sport from which the modern game of tennis is derived. It is also known as court tennis in the United States, formerly royal tennis in England and Australia and courte-paume in France. The game thrived among the 17th century nobility of France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, and the Habsburg Empire.
