All the larger and heavier ma-terial is handled by two yard cranes, one of which is equippedwith a magnet. After the scrap is sorted, that which is tobe sold is loaded directly into cars which are consigned to thescrap dealers, thereby saving an additional handling whichwould be involved if we were to place the scrap in bins andthen later transfer it from the bins to the scrap cars. We watch the various items reclaimed to see that we are. Rolling Mill at the Huntington Shops that in a great many instances the work of reclamation canbe overdone. The buildings that are termed scrap shops are madefrom scrap, all of the lumber used being that removed fromcars undergoing repairs and the covering being old car roof-ing. The buildings are kept nicely painted and a fairly suc-cessful attempt has been made to keep them and their sur-roundings in a neat and orderlv condition. The moral effect not overdoing the work and putting back into service materialthat will possibly fail and cause trouble, in which case thelabor of application would be lost.
