Loss of milk teeth. Close-up of the mouth of a 7-year-old boy who is missing some of his primary (milk) teeth. The milk teeth emerge at around six months of age (teething) and are lost between the ages of six and twelve. They are replaced by secondary (permanent) teeth. There are usually 20 primary teeth and 32 permanent teeth.
