To keep a raspberry bed in good productive condition, the old, weak and dead wood should be cut â out every season, to give strength to the young shoots for the" next year's bearing. In spring the weakest suckers should be removed, leaving five or six of the strongest in each hill. The ground cshould be spaded and a top dressing of manure given. Protection.âTo guard against injury by the Winter, the canes may be tied to stakes and covered with straw, or they may be laid down in the Autumn and covered with a few inches of earth, leaves, litter or branches of evergreens.
