The Window of Remembrance, at the Berlin Wall Memorial, was built 2010 to remember the victims of the Berlin Wall. The memorial, in corroded metal, to simulate the Iron Curtain division, includes photographs, dates of birth and death of people escaping or deemed to be escaping by the border guards. The top row, left to right, includes: Siegfried Kroboth (23/4/1968-14/5/1973) drowned in the River Spree, aged 5, the border guards accused of obstructing the rescue; Burkhard Niering (1/9/1950-5/1/1974) shot, aged 23; Herbert Kiebler (24/3/1952-27/6/1975) shot, aged 23; Dietmar Schwietzer (21/2/1958-16/2/1977) shot, aged 18; Marienetta Jirkowsky (25/8/1962-22/11/1980) shot, aged 18, the youngest woman killed at the Wall; Hans-Jurgen Starrost (24/6/1954-16/4/1981) shot, aged 26; Lothar Fritz Freie (8/2/1955-6/6/1982) shot in a restricted area, aged 27, with no intention to escape; Reiner Liebeke (11/9/1951-3/9/1986) drowned, aged 34, in the Sacrower See. The middle row shows: Johannes Sprenger (3/12/1905-10/5/1974) shot, aged 68, as he approached a watch-tower, but ruled as a suicide by a Berlin court as, diagnosed with lung cancer, he had told his wife he would return in a coffin; Herbert Halli (24/11/1953-3/4/1975) shot, aged 21; Lothar Hennig (30/6/1954-5/11/1975) shot, aged 21, while running home, with no intention to escape; Henri Weise (13/7/1954-May 1977), drowned in the River Spree, aged 22, the body not being found until 27/7/1977; Michael Schmidt (20/10/1964-1/12/1984) shot, aged 20; Rene Gross (1/5/1964-21/1986) shot, aged 22, alongside fellow escapee Manfred Mader. The bottom row includes: Giuseppe Savoca (22/4/1968-15/6/1974), drowned in the River Spree, aged 6, the border guards obstructing his rescue; Cetin Mert (11/5/1970-15/6/1974) drowning in the River Spree, aged 5, 5 metres from the West Berlin riverside; Dr Johannes Muscho (31/7/1949-16/3/1981) shot, aged 31, crossing the border strip to East Berlin; Silvio Proksch (3/3/1962-5/12/1963) shot, aged 21.
