It seemslogical to assume that the Lord Him-self appointed this second meeting, andJohn makes special reference thatThomas was told of this pre-arrangedmeeting. Scripture shows that it was thecustom to meet on the first day ofthe week during the apostolic period(see Acts 20:4-7, 1 Cor. 16:1, 2) andsurely the apostles would not be sopresumptuous as to change the day ofworship wthout divine Sabbath breaking was one of thecharges most frequently broughtagainst Christ during His statement that the Sabbath wasmade for man and not man for theSabbath and that the Son of Manis Lord also of the Sabbath (Mark2:27, 28) is in accordance that He hadthe authority to change the old Mosaicinstitution of the Sabbath if He sodesired. Speaking of the changes Christ hadmade concerning the old law, Paulsaid, Let no man therefore judge youin meat or in drink, or in respect ofa Hoi yd ay, or of the new moon, orof the Sabbath days (read Col. 2:13-17).
