Blacksmith Lapwing on the ground, Kruger National Park, South Africa.


Blacksmith Lapwing has a very bold patterned in black,grey and white with possible warning colours to predators. Even very small damp areas caused by a spilling water trough can attract Lapwing are now numerous in areas where they were absent until the 1930's. In the Kruger Park they have also entered estuarine mud flats in winter where they aggreessively displace others waders. Diet is aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates.
